Mycotoxin Analysis

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), approximately 25% of the cereals produced in the world are contaminated with mycotoxins. They are small (MW 700), chemically and biologically active secondary metabolites by filamentous fungi that readily colonize crops and contaminate them with toxins in the field or after harvest. The diseases caused by exposure to mycotoxins are known as mycotoxicoses and involve a wide range of susceptible animal species including humans. Aflatoxins, ochratoxin, zearalenone, deoxynivalenol, fumonisins, T2 toxin, HT2 toxin and citrinin are common and important mycotoxins.
